Andrea Montavon-McKillip established the firm with the goal of marrying her experience in appellate practice with her experience in immigration law. Her office in Davie, Florida is conveniently located in central Broward County, a few blocks from I-595.
Attorney Montavon-McKillip first became personally involved in immigration law when, while working as an immigration paralegal in Chicago in 1998, she helped the immigration lawyers she worked for prepare her husband's own case. This early experience taught her how fundamental the U.S. immigration system is to U.S. families and businesses, and motivated her to become an immigration attorney.
Andrea Montavon-McKillip received her Bachelor's degree in English Literature and Spanish with College Honors from Washington University in St. Louis in 1997, after spending her junior year studying at the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain. In 2002, Attorney Montavon-McKillip received her Juris Doctor cum laude from University of Arizona's James E. Rogers College of Law, where she was Senior Articles Editor for the Arizona Law Review.
After graduation, Andrea Montavon-McKillip worked for the State Appellate Defender in Chicago, Illinois, handling criminal appeals and arguing before the First District Appellate Court and the Illinois Supreme Court. After moving to Florida, she worked for a commercial litigation firm in Fort Lauderdale, where she ran the firm's Immigration Department. She later worked for an immigration boutique firm in Coral Gables.
Attorney Montavon-McKillip wealth of experience includes employment-based visas such as H-1Bs, L-1s, and O-1s, E-1 and E-2 investor visas, deportation defense and bond representation in removal proceedings in immigration court, asylum cases, citizenship applications, and family-based green cards. Her practice also emphasizes appellate matters and I-9 issues.
Andrea Montavon-McKillip is a Member of the Board of Directors of the South Florida chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and is a member of the chapter's Pro Bono Committee and Litigation Committee. She also serves on the Client Security Fund Committee of the Florida Bar. She is a member of the Broward Bar Association and the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild. She is fluent in Spanish, with working knowledge of Portuguese and French, and is licensed in both Florida and Illinois. She is a Florida Civil Law Notary, the equivalent of Notaries in civil law jurisdictions.
Attorney Montavon-McKillip has published articles in various legal publications and has also presented at several Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars on a variety of immigration topics, including I-9 issues and employer compliance, asylum law, prosecutorial discretion and immigration bond proceedings.
